How to play Rarest

Rarest gives everyone the same prompt each day, such as a vegetable, a UK town beginning with S or a word containing QU. You get up to five answers. The twist is in the scoring: every answer is worth more the fewer other players gave it, so the obvious answer barely scores and the clever one nobody else thought of can be worth 50 points or more.

Category prompts are checked against lists we have written ourselves, with common spellings and plurals accepted. Word prompts accept any real English word that fits the pattern. Scores update live through the day as more people play, and the full spread of answers appears once you have submitted yours.

Rarest FAQ

How are points worked out?

Roughly 100 divided by the number of players who gave the same answer, including you. Very obvious answers are counted as if lots of people had already said them, so they score only a few points from the start.

Can I check an answer before I submit?

Yes. Each answer is checked as you go, so you can fix a typo or swap in something else before you lock in.

Why did my score change after I played?

Because it is live. When other players give the same answer as you, it becomes worth a little less. Your score settles at the end of the day.

Can I play past prompts?

Yes. The archive keeps the last seven days, playable just for fun.
