How to play Twill

Twill is a daily logic puzzle set on a weaver's loom. Every square of the swatch takes one of two threads, light or dark. Each row and each column must hold as many light squares as dark ones, and there may never be three of the same thread side by side, across or down. A tie (=) between two squares means they are the same thread, and a cross (x) means they are different.

Tap a square once for light, again for dark and once more to clear it. Drag from a woven square along its row or column to copy its thread in one go. Squares that break a rule are outlined in red, and you can switch on a count of each thread per row and column.

The week gets harder as it goes: Easy on Monday and Tuesday, Medium on Wednesday and Thursday, Hard on Friday and Saturday. Sunday is twill day, where no two rows and no two columns may be woven alike. You start on 1,000 points and lose points as the clock runs and 50 for each hint. A new swatch appears at midnight UK time, the same for everyone.

Twill FAQ

Will I ever have to guess?

No. Every swatch has exactly one solution and is checked by a solver that only uses steps a person can see, such as a gap between two dark threads that must be light, or a row that already has its three light squares.

What do the hints do?

A hint lights up the next square to weave and explains why, in plain words. If a square you have woven is wrong, the hint points that out first.

Can I play more than one a day?

Yes. Endless mode has hundreds of extra swatches at four levels, Easy, Medium, Hard and Twill. The archive also keeps the last seven daily swatches.
