The solved garden

The seeds: R1C2, R2C6, R3C4, R4C8, R5C5, R6C1, R7C3, R8C7 (R = row, C = column, counting from the top left). Every row, column and plot holds one seed, and no two seeds touch, not even diagonally.

A medium garden: Thursday's puzzle. The hardest idea it needed was a square whose seed would leave a row, column or plot with no room.

How to crack it: the first moves

  1. Every free square of the sand plot is in row 8, so the plot's seed must go there. Nothing else in row 8 can have one.
  2. Every free square of the teal plot is in row 7, so the plot's seed must go there. Nothing else in row 7 can have one.
  3. The pink plot still needs one more seed, and only one free square is left. Sow it.
  4. Row 7 still needs one more seed, and only one free square is left. Sow it.
  5. The sage plot still needs one more seed, and only one free square is left. Sow it.
  6. The lavender plot still needs one more seed, and only one free square is left. Sow it.

Plots are named by their colour in the picture (sage, sunflower, lavender, coral, sky, pink, teal, sand). Every Sown garden can be solved this way, one deduction at a time, without guessing.
