About these games
The daily puzzles on games.cyber-jack.uk are made by cyber-jack, a small independent studio in the UK. They are free to play in your browser, with no account and nothing to install.
Who we are
cyber-jack is a one-person studio that builds small, focused apps and games. The same studio makes privacy-first apps such as GutLedger and ListLedger, and the approach is the same here: make things that are quick, fair and respectful of your time and data. We design, write, build and run the games ourselves, from the puzzle generators to the servers they run on.
The games
Every game gives everyone the same puzzle each day. The daily games here change over at midnight UK time:
- Word games: Warmer (find the secret word by meaning), Handful (seven tiles, your three best words), Daisy (60 seconds of word chains), Stepwise (a word ladder), Rarest (score for answers nobody else gave), Eightfold (one eight-letter word hidden in a grid), Trellis (trace as many words as you can) and Nibble (a little British crossword).
- Logic puzzles: Sown (one seed in every row, column and plot), Bimble (one walk through every square), Twill (weave light and dark) and Nosy (a cosy village whodunnit).
- Quotes: Unquote (crack the code hiding a famous line), Marquee (light up a line letter by letter), Prompter (find a famous line's missing ending) and Hearsay (name the film, show or book from one line).
- And more: Shires (name a UK area from its outline) and Pitwick (one seeded deck-building run down a mine each day).
Our three original games live on their own sites and change over at midnight UTC: Letterly (one letter, ten categories, 90 seconds), Cluster (find the four hidden groups in 16 words) and Rankle (put four things in the right order). The games hub has a few more that are not dailies.
What we stand for
- Free to play. A small ad on some results screens helps pay for the servers.
- No account needed. Open a game and play. Adding a name for a leaderboard is optional.
- One puzzle a day. The same puzzle for everyone, so you can compare notes with friends without spoiling anything: share cards show your result, not the answer.
- Privacy by default. We only use Google Analytics to count visits if you say yes, and in the UK, the EEA and Switzerland Google asks for your consent before advertising cookies are used. Our privacy page explains exactly what happens, in plain English.
- Fair puzzles. Logic puzzles are proved to have exactly one solution before they are used, and a day's answers are never published until that day's puzzle has closed for everyone.
How the puzzles are made
Most of our puzzles come from generators we wrote ourselves, using openly licensed word lists and data, with checks that keep rude words out and make sure every puzzle is fair. We have written up the whole process, from the midnight changeover to how quotes are checked, in how our daily puzzles are made. The sources and licences we rely on, including every font, are listed on our credits page.
If you want to get better at a particular game, each one has a how-to-play page, and our guides go deeper on strategy.
